    Translation:

I think that Six by M.M. Vaughan is a brilliant book full of mystery and adventure. It is the first Essex Book Award book I have read for this year’s book awards and I thoroughly enjoyed it from the start to the finish. I loved how they could speak to each other via Effie, though, like Parker and Emma, I didn’t particularly like the thought of being stuck on another planet and being monitored on everything they say and do. I think the opening showed how different both P and E and even M were from the start of the novel to the end. The end of the book was a subtle cliff-hanger and I want to know if they ever see Michael again, or if their dad finds a safe way to get back to Earth. Overall, this book is outstanding and I was engrossed in it the whole way through. I would rate it 8.5 out of 10.

    3. I think that SIX by M.M.Vaughan is a brilliant book full of adventure. The first page is so intriguing it makes need to read on and uncover the mystery. My favourite part of the book was when Parker stepped into Michaels house, the description was so detailed and gave you a clear picture of how grand his house was. I recommend this book to anybody who likes a mystery or science fictions. I rate this book 10/10.

    4. I just wanted to say thank you for winning the Six Review award and I voted for it, although it was a tough call between the rest of the books. Today at KEGS was really fun and inspiring to hear the author's stories. I can't wait for M.M Vaughan's next book! Also, well done to Dan Smith for winning with Boy X! :-)

  3. This is my first book that I have read for the essex book awards and i rated it ten out of ten it is absolutely amazing. At the beginning I didn't quite know what was happening but after the first chapter it was all very clear to me. I have never heard of M.M Vaughan, but know I want to read more of her books. I think Effie is an amazing creation, it should be invented (if something like that hasn't already been invented). My favourite character was Emma because even though she was deaf she still lived her life normally and she is very brave and determined and cares about the people she loves. I'm not a grate fan of sad endings and when Parker was tacken away I thought it was going to be a sad ending but I was quite shocked how it was a happy ending in the fact how Parker's mum was reunited with her family. It made me cry when Solomon basically gave his life away for Parker and Emma.

So far, I rate this book 8/10!

  5. This is the third book I have read in the Essex Book Award and I am sure that it is the best. When I first read Boy X, I thought that I had found a winner already, until I read SIX. This surely must be the best book I have ever read. The first page or two were confusing, as nothing was explained, but I realised what had happened later on. The amazing combination of science fiction and adventure makes this book one of the best I have ever read.

  6. Six is a thrilling story that has constant action and mysteries to the story that are carried through the book, which I really like in this - the father of two children had so much work and has to keep many secrets from his children but something happens that changes everything, this is my second favourite book in the essex book awards and I would rate it 8/10 only because I was a little disappointed at the end and I felt it was a little abrupt but still quite good but I felt this was the difference between my favourite and SIX being my favourite.

  14. SIX is the first book I have read for the Essex Book Awards. It is a unique science fiction novel with plenty of mystery and adventure in it. As you read on more of the plot makes sense to you and you understand clearly what is happening and become engrossed in the book, wondering what will happen next. This book keeps the reader wanting to read more with no more boring parts like other books where the entire plot is told to the reader. The more you read this book, more you want to continue reading it. The cliff-hanger at the end is well done and not too or abrupt, it is the kind of cliff-hanger that makes you think about the fate of characters as well as want to read on. This is an amazing plot and story and I congratulate M. M. Vaughan on making a science fiction so original that feels like it should have been done long ago. For a book by an author I have never heard of (and I do not mean that offensively) it is brilliant. I rate this book 8.5 out of ten.

  20. Vaughan’s SIX is an interesting book set in America, when their Dad mysteriously brings them over for work purposes Emma and Parker begin to make friends and enemies. On a fast paced adventure they discover the secret of Avecto, their Dads Company. In a fast paced book meeting loads of extraordinary people, they finally get where they need to be.
Emma who is deaf defies expectations with her love for animals and the environment, while Michael sticks up to the school bully while corrupting secure computer systems and video games, with everything at their disposal they can solve the mystery surrounding the company.
The book provides a relatively detailed account of the story while time frames seem distorted. Some of the characters are slightly bizarre and other than for interesting reasons related to the story, the method of collection of the data required is different in several ways, it appears they do not need to solve the mystery they just need to place a few sections together to solve it. Otherwise the speed in which things happen feels almost fake. The immediate consequences felt the story feel more forced while the treatment of the company’s employees is extremely odd and slightly worrying.
The story starts without much sense but makes more sense by the end, this does not help the spin of the story and this tells us something is up with the Dad’s work from the beginning. As soon as we discover what is going on we know exactly how the story will end, mostly. The ending did not live up to my expectations at all and the book finished too abruptly without any gains on the progression. The way their dad did things felt unrealistic especially working for much of the night and the amount of information he hid from his children with his actions are crazy.
The book contains almost too much forced fantasy in such a modern setting and the way undefined characters act leaves some of them feeling undeveloped. While some activities feel too simple. Luck always seems to be on their side and they never meet a dead end. I therefore think that the concept is amazing but the overall book only disappoints. I would not recommend it to friends as the anti-climax is too bad and the rest is slightly odd in the way it comes across, the way we already know stuff before they do actually becomes annoying as we have to wait for them to reach simple conclusions.

  21. I thought that SIX was very interesting and exciting. I loved how it was so mysterious and inventing, and Solomon Gladstone was a very interesting and strange character. SIX unfolds very slowly so the reader is on the edge of their seat at all times, not wanting the story to end but also wanting to find out the resolution to Michael, Emma and Parker I loved how the story was so unreal and sci-fi but also really relatable and touching. Overall, I would rate this book a 9/10 as the only let down was how ordinary the end was after building it all up to a climax that just went. But apart from that, this book was intriguing and really fun to read. If you haven't already read this book, give it a go.

  22. I thought SIX by M.M Vaughan was a very mysterious but very enjoyable read. It had a very ' real life' storyline , but also a very ' unrealistic' storyline. I found that the children had a lot of courage and determination to just find their dad , and eventually their mum. Although if I was going to add a bad point I would say that when the chapters come Parker's and Emma's dad in the laboratory I found it a bit unexciting and a bit boring. I think this was because it was quite long and dragged on a bit . Overall , though I would give this book 9 out of 10.

  33. Picture this, you’ve just moved to a completely different country, you have only one friend, and your dad mysteriously disappears only days before seeming really on edge about his classified scientific work. It’s up to Parker, his friend Michael, his deaf sister and a pure white pig to solve this mystery, what could go wrong? The book and plot is moderately easy to understand and the idea blow my mind! Following Parker along this story you meet various different characters from completely different backgrounds. For example, Michael and his rich lifestyle and parker with his scientific, ecological family using EFE to speak. EFE (ears for Emma) really was inventive and I think it was a very original idea to include dialogue with Emma (she’s deaf). It does become a bit confusing in the middle and I would recommend re-reading that section to fully understand what happens. The ending is satisfying and leaves you to make conclusions to what happens next. I really enjoyed SIX and it’s not really aimed at any age for reading (9+) so I would definitely recommend it to you.

  35. I enjoyed the book about how the protagonist was ostracized and how his close friend, sister and pet were his only allies. All these books have quite frankly the same techniques. I could say these books would be recommended for Years 6 and 7 due to the lies, deceit and intense mystery. I did encounter lies/deceit in a topic book called Animal Farm, by George Orwell. The SIX book has a deceit technique as Parker's father had to suppress a secret that would be eventually too much for him... I give it 10/10

  36. I think that SIX is a book filled with mystery and action, it is a real page-turner. I just couldn't put it down when I started reading it. Sometimes, when I got really into it, I just wanted to shout to Parker and Emma "YOUR MOTHER IS STILL ALIVE!". I also liked the fact that Parker and Emma can contact each other secretly without having to say a word. I kinda wish that my family have it just so that we can talk to each other whilst having dinner! In the book it is sort of like of their little secret weapon. It was a shame it was left at such a cliffhanger...

I found Six an interesting and thought-provoking book because it made me realise what the future might hold for mankind. Six was also a heart-warming story of what a family is prepared to go through just to be in each other’s presence.
I found it interesting that as the book progressed, a perfect world seemed to become more desirable. A world without crime. A world where war, poverty, global warming and unjust decisions would be just a memory of the past, of Earth. This is a world that proposed a perfect life. But it is interesting to read that when Parker and Emma finally got the chance not only to see their father and mother again and everything is as it should be or better, they soon realise that their new life of ‘perfection’ is not everything. In fact, Six is not perfect because although the traditionally bad things in life are gone, everyone is constantly monitored. Every aspect of a person’s life is watched and no one is really free. The advertisements promoting Six would convince a lot of people to believe that Six is perfect, but that is incorrect in my opinion.
Reading Six gave an insight to a perfect world. As I read this book, I began to think about what a perfect world might mean. Of course the upsides are endless, but would I want to be monitored? Would I really want to abandon the life I have? How could I be sure that Six was actually perfect?
My favourite part was when the family were reunited and everything seemed perfect at that moment; they had their parents and presumably a bright future ahead of them where their every wish would be answered. But sometimes that is not always the best thing.
This excellent book gave me a message: this is where we could be soon unless we do something.
Overall, the message was not everything the book Six offered. Six was action-packed but at the same time showed the emotions and feelings of the characters in depth. The saddest part of the book for me was when Solomon died. However, his sacrifice for Parker and Emma shows that you shouldn’t judge a person by their looks. Yet however ugly or scary Solomon must have looked to Parker, Emma and Michael, his heart was clearly giving and extremely nice to the point of self-sacrifice.
I really enjoyed Six and recommend it to anyone who wants a good read with lots of action.

  40. SIX was the first book I read out of the "six" books. Parker and his sister Emma have just moved from London. Parker is struggling to settle in to his American school. When Parker's dad is captured, his life is suddenly turned upside down and time is running out. This book is a masterpiece. It is my favorite book so far and it is filled with action and adventure. The story is incredibly exiting and always keeps thinking "what will they do next?" I think the characters are totally believable and all feel unique and different.
I am giving this book a 10/10 for six, as it is literally the perfect novel

  45. Your mum's dead, your dads kidnapped , you've set out to find and rescue your family and you've made an enemy with the school bully. With all of this, will parker banks even live past his first year in american high school?

Personally, my favourite character was Emma, because she was a strong and independent girl and she really puts out a message to never, even when fate has a lot of stuff in store for you, give up and live life. Don't just waste it. Even if a lot of things may get thrown at you, don't let go of your dreams so easily.

The characters definitely felt real to me. They felt that real that i felt like i was there with them the whole time. From start to finish. The author has definitely written them very well, like having very realistic characteristics and when the author described the appearances, they came straight to me because of how realistic they are.

The story definitely kept me guessing, but mostly it kept me guessing at the end. When i say the end, i mean the last sentence. It was an amazing way to finish this book because i kept on thinking about it all day and now because I'm writing this down, I'm probably going to think about it all day today as well! Basically, the author had
done a very good job at making me guess quite a lot.

My favourite part of the book was when Parker met Michael and Michael had given Parker the courage to come out of the janitors closet. Just think, it goes to show how much confidence Michael will give parker further in the book and how amazing was it that they instantly bonded? I also thought it was a little bit funny when parker scared Michael!

I personally think that the tense scenes were written particularly well, like the part when chases were going on. I was sitting up right and breathing very heavily at these parts because of how well the author had written them. But my favourite tense scene was when Parker and Emma were on E.F.F.I.E after Emma had been picked up by the 'police' after swimming tryouts.

This book made me laugh a lot but definitely not cry or anything like that because it wasn't an overly sad story. It was one of the most gripping stories yet! I loved it ! I definitely would recommend this to a friend and as a matter of fact, i already have to quite a lot of people!

When Parker Banks, and his family, move from London to New York, 12-year-old Parker struggles to adapt to American everyday life- especially with school. Consequently it is up to Parker, his deaf 10-year-old sister Emma, the pet pig and Parkers new friend Michael. They have a special device Effie, which his father invented to allow Emma and her family to communicate through telepathy. However is that enough to save their dad? This is an unique science fiction book.

  47. I thought six was a thrilling science fiction book bringing interesting action to every page you turn. While reading it my hands were super glued and I found it hard to put down- the concept was unique and I have never read a book with teleporting pigs in before! It is about Parker Banks and his family when they move from London to New York where he struggles to settle in. This book constantly throws exciting twists at you. I would rate it 8/10.

  48. Absolutely amazing book! What I like about this is that it could even be real. Who knows, maybe at this minute people are getting teleported to a habitable planet. It seems like sci-fi but remarkably you could relate to today. An unstoppable page turner. A definite 10/10

  49. I loved SIX!!! It was by far one of my favourite books out of all six!! I really want to know what happens at the end!! Do the stay on SIX or do they escape?... But when Solomon died I was a bit freaked out with the depth the description of him went into but I was so sad as he had been really nice to Parker and his sister!!! ;( I rate this book a 9/10 as I loved every bit of it but now I really want there to be a second book!! 50. I loved this book!
When I saw the front cover and read the blurb I didn't think I was going to like it, but from the very first page I was constantly wanting to see what would happen next. I think it was very well written and it is my favourite book so far.
The plot was so unlike anything that I have read before- this made it even better! There kept being new mysteries every time I thought they were okay and the constant twists made it very interesting. I read a quarter of the book in one day, which is probably the most I've read in such a short time.
One thing I didn't quite understand was the numbers and the beginning of each chapter- I might just be missing something though.
I think the characters of Solomon and Michael were both developed really well throughout the book, meaning that I felt that I got to know them as Parker did. I liked the fact that they both kept a bit of a sense of mystery to them, as it showed that they could both be quite independent. I felt that the part where Solomon died was very sad and quite gruesome, however I think the plot moved on fairly quickly so I got distracted, which was good.
I felt that the ending slightly let down the rest of the book, however, as it left a lot of questions unanswered and you only got to read about a tiny bit of their life on SIX, which was slightly disappointing. If there was a sequel, then these questions might be answered, which I think would be great- and if there was one I would definitely read it!
I thought the book was very good on the whole.

  53. I liked some parts of six but at points it was fairly boring or i just didn't get it. I rated it a 5 out of 10. My favorite part was probably when when Parker and Emily get reunited with their mum after many years of them thinking that she was dead.

  54. Six was by far my favourite eba book that i have read. I must admit from the beging couple of chapters i was convinced that i was not going to like it as it did not really grab me in from the very start, howvever as soon as the book started to reveal the pats and the emotions of the characters, i imeadiatly felt connected with them as it gave such a throughrough insite into their thaughts in their haed.
One of the points that i found really interesting was that the bookmainly communicated through effie and code. At first this did annoy me as it did at points become tedious that the speech constantly had to change and sometimes became comfusing. However, just like the rest of the book, it was so good at quickly getting you engrosed in something and understanding what is happening that i soon got used to it and in the end loved it! I really like how although you would expact to not really get any sense of humanity or emotions to come out of a robotic comunication, it still made me feel even more connected to them as i felt like i was inside their head, hearing what they didnt want the outisde world to hear.
A lot of books seem to guve the main characters very limited emotions. By this i mean if there was something that would really scare you they seem to be unvinsable evn if they are just a school boy. Howver, six did not do this and when the text was made to make you feel emotions like fear of excitment, Parker also felt this and that made me feel more empathy and pity for the charcater. It also often let me understand the situation alot better sometimes as i was able to know how everybody was feeling.
I also felt like it was very differnent to have two main caharcaters, Parker and Michle to have such different personalities as thery were best friends but i felt like it was very effesctive as it gave you almost two differnet ways that they could have handled the situation throughout- layed back or panicked- yet in the end it showed yo that could have been no other way to resolve the situation as they both united into agreement.
One part that i did not really like was the gruesome death of Solloman. Although i was fine with the gory as it gave a lot of detail so you could get a clear picture in you mind and see what the charcters could see. Howvever, i did not like that it seemed to move on so quickly as i felt that although it did make the story move nicely everyone seemed to forget about it quickly which i found fustrating and unbelievable.
I also really like how the story flowed really easily and although it stretched my vocabulary and at times i had to make a list of words to check in the dictionary, It flowed really nicely and was an easy read,
In whole, i really enjoyed the book and and would highly recommend it!

  55. SIX is a fantastic, thrilling and mysterious sci-fi, which I never thought I'd read. I don't normally enjoy these types of books as they're unrealistic, but for me, SIX changed that opinion. I love how Parker and Emma are so close, although I feel like Michael could've had more of a part in it at the end, as I loved his friendship with Parker. I love Polly and now wish I have a white pig. :) I would rate SIX a 8/10, just because I thought the action seemed a bit rushed at the end and that Michael and Polly wasn't in it.

  61. Six was an interesting book. The diversity within the characters, I found, increased my fondness for the book. An awe filled plot made you not want to stop reading. The futuristic theme that is woven throughout the story is gripping and I loved to read it. The settings, being rather different within each chapter, were also huge contributors to the individuality of this story.
Parker and his sister, Emily, were both taken to America after their father is given a 'special' job. This then leads on to an adventure that truly turns Parker and Emily's lives upside down. The plot was, as I previously stated, riveting and made the book unputdownable.
As much as I loved this book, I found the ending very anticlimactic and rather unnecessary. Because of this, I would only rate it 7/10.

  65. SIX is a brilliant book that has action, suspense and is fast-paced. I liked the the Dad's secret science project was hidden until I got deep into the book. The characters and their personalities were very realistic (especially Emma and Parker) so you could easily imagine that they were real. There were also a lot of details in the book so it made you feel that you were there. The cliffhangers used in the book were very effective and always kept you on the edge of your seat. Overall, I would rate it 9/10.

  67. A very intense and enticing book that leaves the reader with only one option, to keep readin. You are part of the journey, you keep fighting with words to stay alive.
A devastating call. An impossible journey. No turning Back. Once you start to read there really is no turning back. The book puts you in the same position as Parker. Once you get into 'Six'. there is no turning back. The book is a boy called Parker, who's dad gets kidnapped and taken to the only other planets humans can live on,'Six'. Him and his sister mus teleport there to live with him, but the problem is, once you're there there is no coming back.
This book is a must-read for teens who like sci-fi and action. 5 star book. Read it today.
This book just kept me reading, I just couldn't stop reading. Well done to Ms Vaughan. "Break the code and join the revolution"

A boy called Michael helps to save their dad and discovers a compnay called, 'SIX' who want his dad's inventions. So they blackmail him.

  71. Six took an interesting science fiction idea and turned it into a fast-paced, twisting story. The idea of telepathy between some of the main characters was brilliant, even if I was surprised that it was not more central to the storyline. The gradual build-up from a familiar school setting to a massive plot twist (if not a bit of a cliché one) ensured suspense throughout. The book explored a very controversial topic, especially at the ending, creating questions for the reader to think about. However, I did have one problem with this book: the ending. For me, the ending just seemed rather anticlimactic and unremarkable compared with the rest of the book. In fact, the way the book ends seemed more to me like the start of a book rather than the end, which makes me wonder if there will be a sequel.

  72. Six was a complicated adventure book that made me bewildered and interesting. The author (m.m. Vaughan) has been creative using real life ideas into a fiction story. I personally think that it is good that he included a person who has a disability to show that they are just important by using Effie to make you more intrigued. This book is about this boy called parker who’s at school at the beginning and finding it difficult to fit in. His sister is also at this school who is deaf and cope by using this magical thing called Effie to commutate. I think that this book is a bit boring and a slow start to it. I liked the bit where their father got taken away to the mysterious planet six.
